Hey guys,

 

First off. How are we all?

 

Now most importantly, my question to you all :)

 

If you have nothing nice to say, please don't say it.

 

Alright so I have a Nissan Pulsar GTI-R. It skipped a tooth on the chain and basically I need to replace tensioner. I have chosen to replace tensioner, chain and all three guides and am currently awaiting arrival from Japan.

 

Is there anyone that has done this either with engine in car or out of car? I was hoping that I could get this done at home over a weekend but considering I work most of the weekend, should I just apply for some time off and attempt to do this?

 

If anyone has any hands on experience then that would be perfect and I would be immensely appreciative.

I shall do the head gasket and water pump when I take motor out.. if I need to take motor out. If I don't need to take motor out then just doing the head at this point in time will do.

Do what bling said, head off. New headgasket and waterpump. Ive never seen a timing chain on a jap motor that needed replacing. Wizzer dics the top of the block, and go get the head skimmed a few thou for a hundred bucks.

 

If in doubt pay someone to do it. f ur going to leave the head on use sump toyota sump sealer on te timig cover that shit seala anything.

 

I think a baby godzilla is really the r32 gts-4

Motor and gearbox need to come out as one assembly.

 

You can leave them bolted together on the floor, while you do the chains and head. Don't use anything too abrasive on the deck of the block to clean it. Being alloy, it'll scratch easily, and your head gasket might not seal properly.

just quick question to the GTIR specialists. I also own a GTiR which has a freshly forged engine with 8.5:1 CPR CP pistons running 140psi across all cycs. Using P98 fuel, engine hates timing, the more free flow the setup is the more it wants to pin. Only maxing out at 140awkws limited by detonation. Tried GT2871 (came with the car), ATR28SS1, SS15 and SS2 in both .64 and .86 turbine housings. FMIC, 3inches dump back exhaust, 650cc injectors and Adaptronic plugin ecu. Any one had this issue in the past?

 

Car's using stock cams, and cam gears, checked few times all on the mark.

I'd suggest the only constant in your case is the ignition system or intercooler and the problem is either your spark plug type/heat range/gap, possibly your coil setup is just not up to the task above stock tune/hardware levels? Or the intercooler setup is just crap and your intake temps are sky high?
